This past spring, I had to complete one of the largest projects so far in my career: my senior exhibition. After going to Italy last summer, I had an interest in cyanotype photography. For those of you that don't know what cyanotype photography is, it is one of the first ways that photographs were created. Using a combination of two chemicals painted on a sheet of paper, areas on the paper that are not blocked by an object and are exposed to light will change the original blue to different shades of lighter blue. I wanted to continue my use of this type of photography and connect it with the graphic design that I had been working on in Grand Forks.
The premise of my show was based on the movement of people though out the United States, more specifically Grand Forks North Dakota. I wanted to show that beauty that is this small quaint town and what it all has to offer. While the University of North Dakota is a large draw for the town, many students tend to leave once they graduate. The show consists of four pamphlets that use infographics made from the cyanotypes to show the benefits of living in Grand Forks. Each pamphlet will also fold out into a poster that abstractly shows downtown.
