Well today's the day, I still don't think it has hit me yet that I will be spending the next three and a half months in Europe. We left today from MSP and have one pit stop in Toronto then it's off to Dublin for the next week! I'm excited because I have never been to Ireland or even the UK. I imagine the architecture is very different from that of Florence, so I am looking forward to comparing the two. Ireland has a rich history, and usually I'm not too much of a nerd when it comes to history but when you are in the actual setting of the ancient stories it becomes a whole new kind of fascinating. We have two trips booked so far while we are in Dublin, both day trips. The first travels up to Belfast in Northern Ireland were we will be going along the coast, and the second travels west of Dublin to Galsway with stops along that coast. A few other attractions that I am anxious to see are the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Trinity College and the Guinness Storehouse (it's a must see). I will keep up with my travels here if you would like to follow along. Ciao for now!
Movement: Senior Exhibition
This past spring, I had to complete one of the largest projects so far in my career: my senior exhibition. After going to Italy last summer, I had an interest in cyanotype photography. For those of you that don't know what cyanotype photography is, it is one of the first ways that photographs were created. Using a combination of two chemicals painted on a sheet of paper, areas on the paper that are not blocked by an object and are exposed to light will change the original blue to different shades of lighter blue. I wanted to continue my use of this type of photography and connect it with the graphic design that I had been working on in Grand Forks.
The premise of my show was based on the movement of people though out the United States, more specifically Grand Forks North Dakota. I wanted to show that beauty that is this small quaint town and what it all has to offer. While the University of North Dakota is a large draw for the town, many students tend to leave once they graduate. The show consists of four pamphlets that use infographics made from the cyanotypes to show the benefits of living in Grand Forks. Each pamphlet will also fold out into a poster that abstractly shows downtown.
The Start of a New Chapter
Its crazy to think that these past four years have gone by so fast. I am extremely lucky to have had the type of experience that I have. As this chapter ends, I can only look forward to a new one with new adventures. This part of my site is what I am going to use as a window into my own day to day life. There are so many things that I enjoy, some days it seems as though my mind is all over the place. I want to show my viewers the importance of individuality and uniqueness. Through college I was able to take chances and risks to further my own knowledge of what I wanted to continue in my career. Design has offered me an opportunity to make my job into more of a hobby. As my mother always said, "I enjoy going to work because I am not really working, but I am doing something that I love". I hope that you enjoy this small window in to my long lists of favorites.
